John---- if you have 250 acres leased to XCO in this unit then you are a major mineral owner in this unit --- call XCO office 214 368 2084 --- they are very nice people to talk to and I'm sure they can answer all your concerns and questions--- believe me they will not just sit on a multi-Million $ drilling investment without knowing what the rules and permits required to complete the well

ShaleGeo---- Can you not see these faults on seismic, if so could they not map out and drill shorter laterals just up to the fault? You can't drill horizontal thru the fault can you?

ShaleGeo--- Glad they attempted since you never know if something works or not until you try just like with horizontal drilling and hydroFrac sure glad they tried that

ShaleGeo:  You allude to problems associated with a fault line.  A fault line runs through the area where I have acreage in Sabine Parish and I keep getting conflicting info.  Up to now, virtually every well drilled in area is on a north/south line.  It is my understanding the fault line runs northeast to southwest and creates situation where the pay zones are at different depths on either side of the line.  If that is true, then why doesn't the driller simply run the lateral(s) parallel to the fault line?  Pay zone depth would be constant, allowing for penetration along the entire "width" of the section being drilled.  Is this simply too simplistic a solution?  You seem to be well versed on this.  Can you provide any answers?  The "rumors" are the companies are going to pass over our section because of the fault line.  But that line runs through Natchitoches, Red River parishes as well as over into Texas, so there's a lot of area that will not be drilled if what I'm being told is accurate.  Thanks for any insight you might provide.

I too have wondered about that for a long time.  We have been told that there is a fault line that we are dealing with in Shelby County.  However, I've had varying degrees of:  it's good to have a fault line; no it's not good to have a fault line.  Wish I knew what the REAL answer is to this question as I have not been leased since July 2010.

LOFGT, faults are never a good thing for shale gas developments.  Small faults are not as big a problem as big faults.

LesB:  Do you have any idea if the fault running through 28-9-11 is "big" or "small?"  Goes to show you how things change with time.  Back in the late '70's & early '80's when there was a lot of activity in Sabine Parish, the people who leased our property for deep rights were all excited because of the fault and kept telling us we were "on the right side" for good oil production.  Of course, they never went beyond staking some locations!  Thanks again for all the information and help you provide.  It has truly been a blessing to some of us who have only a very limited knowledge of what's going on.
