We have property in extreme NE Bossier Parish, TS23, that borders Lafayette county and we are getting some lease offers.  This property was continually leased for many years but the past 2 or 3 years it has went unleased. Samson Contour has made the latest offer but I don't know a lot about this company.  The land man says they want to drill for natural gas in the Cotton Valley.  I would love to get some input and some comments and advice from all the folks on here that are much more knowledgeable than I am.  The lease from Samson seems to be the best offer and sounds about right for this area which is unproven aside from some Pettit oil producers in the area.  Kieth, Skip, Aubrey, Ted, anyone else jump on in there and give me some help.  Thanks

Did anyone notice this completion in the Sunday Times? This is not in Bossier parish but it must be just across the line. This is very close and looks like to me a very good producer for a vertical, Haynesville sand.  I wonder what a horizontal would do?

Webster Parish

COMPANY: JAG Operrating LLC, hay ra su18; BSI 10, 2: 244135. WHERE: Carterville, S 10. T. 23N R. 11W. DAILY PRODUCTION: 964 mcf gas on 13/64 choke; 727 barrels 51 gravity condensate; 91 barrels water. PRESSURE: 1800 lbs. SPECIFICS: Hay RA; perforations, 10564-10770 feet, depth, 11000 feet.

This one kept jag from going belly up.  came in at 900 and is now at 727. They drilled another one west of it. No news on results of it yet.

Another location made by JAG right off Hwy.157 just west of 2nd well just drilled!  That makes 3.

No company would drill a horizontal well in the Haynesville Sand.  It would be a waste of money.  Where formations have sufficient permeability to allow hydrocarbons to flow to a wellbore vertical wells are the most economic way to produce.  Horizontal wells are drilled in formations that are "tight" meaning low permeability which does not allow hydrocarbons to flow efficiently the the wellbore.  Horizontal wells are not a magic bullet that will increase the productivity of any and all formations.  They are only appropriate for specific circumstances. They are also technically challenging and very expensive.  The fraternity of horizontal drillers is relatively small.  JAG is not a member.

Skip, what about the Petit? Some of the landmen leasing in T23 mentioned that the Petit was a target zone for horizontal drilling.

Or is this a front and they are looking at the smackover?

I'm not aware of any area where the Pettit would qualify for horizontal development.  It is a conventional reservoir.

Great information, Skip!  Thanks for sharing your knowledge.  If Samson has pulled the plug on the play in this area, maybe JAG will move on west and cross Bodcau and get in Bossier parish. I don't believe that the Haynesville formation has been tested around us.

JAG has been drilling Haynesville Sand wells in your area for over thirty years, Pro. What's going on is not new, it's what JAG has been doing for years.

As to Samson Contour, they have recorded about 30 Bossier leases this year with the last one being April 25.  Most of the leases are in Sections 5 & 6 - 23N-11W and Section 1 - 23N - 12W.

Thanks Skip.  I wasn't aware of any Haynesville sand in our area.  I know there are quite a few east of us in and around Springhill.  We are West of there, in Bossier parish, and I know there of some Petit wells and Belco did some testing in the Cotton Valley formations several years ago.  Good to hear that there has been some success in the Haynesville formation out here.  We are hoping to get included in a good production unit before we get too old to enjoy it!  LOL!

You can perform a SONRIS Lite search by section-township-range for your area and review all the producing wells, status code 10.  The volume of oil or condensate produced by Haynesville wells varies greatly from one well to another.  For every well such as the one you posted there are several that produced less than 50 barrels per day on initial production.  However some are so "wet" they are listed as oil wells (product code 10) instead of gas (product code 20).  The Haynesville Formation is a "conventional reservoir" in this area and varies highly over relatively short distances unlike the area which is shale.

Back to leasing news.  J B Land has now filed 107 leases for Bossier Parish covering minerals in 23N - 14W, 13W & 12W.  That fairway continues east with Samson Contour leases in 23N - 12W & 11W.  I am wondering if members are continuing to receive offers from either company and if offers have come from any other companies.
