Have you noticed how billions are thrown around? You would think the folks at CHK are trying to out do the US government.
Yeah, talk about some very, very convenient timing for "the cult of Aubrey" (to say the least), Max.
OK now from a simple minded mineral owner who has their lease with Chesapeake - whom has just finished drilling a well recently - how does all this effect us - expected to have several more wells drilled or so we are told! Located in Dimmit County Texas - still waiting on the pipeline but all paperwork on our behalf has been completed!
Just asking??
Stu, I can only offer you a non-pro opinion from yet another simple-minded out-of-the-loop landowner who repeatedly refused to let family sign a lease with crooked CHK a couple of years back.
In other words, it ain't pretty. It seems likely that the CHK pullback and rig lay-down (which had already begun a good while before this "cult of Aubrey" scandal broke) . . . means way less drilling and way less cash flow for CHK to fund any and everything.
That said, CHK is attempting to prop up their PR with the Hogshooter oil-gusher news.
So, y'know, take the above opinion with a grain of salt (and I'm not talkin' 'bout any edible crystal from a salt dome, either).
Just seems bleak for those who've signed with CHK, no matter how it plays out in the next 6 months or so.
Others, with better knowledge, might have a different spin.
Might want to read Texas UCC 9.343 Statutory Lien (Texas Uniform Commercial Code creates a perfected lien in favor of interests of owners, (producers, royalty owners and working interest owners, in production, "as extracted minerals," to secure the obligations of the first purchaser to pay the purchase price of the minerals sold.
It goes on about how it falls out if an operator seeks bankruptcy protections Royalty owners bear risk of nonpayment for their rights.
The article is by Law360 ..can't copy and paste
Doesn't say which operators are at risk to file bankruptcy BUT we all know that when a firm cannot meet payments to creditors its the natural progression of events.
Just learned that 3 gas wells in Harrison County will not pay one cent this month..company says "didn't meet allotment and account carries a negative balance".
What!!! They saying they overpaid royalty? I simply do NOT believe that. But for whatever reason no check this month. On three wells. They are on 31 right at I-20.
Sounds like royalty owners are the last ones to get paid.
Thanks for the reply - not much we can do at this point I guess. We do have a O/G lawyer working on our behalf but mostly to make sure things are done right! I guess time will tell. I was wondering with all the proven production in our area if another company would buy out - again guess time will tell but we were expecting royality to begin coming in this fall - not so sure now though - on another note things have not slowed down on our place - frack trucks in place - in my humble opinion we are waiting on the pipeline!
Stu:
Please remember that all such mineral interest, leasing, royalty pay, new wells, pipelines, operator issues, Wall Street scandals, etc., etc. -- and especially this huge mess with CHK -- I mean, it's a very complex puzzle.
My above feedback was specifically focused on new drilling and possibly the royalty time line predicated to come into possible pay under theses horrific/unusual circumstances.
That said, if you have CHK wells producing and/or ones being fracked ( which will soon come online per access to a pipeline) -- then, per my many years of tracking/watching such scenarios, I think it certainly is quite possible that you might could be getting paid within the next 3 to 6 months, if not sooner (even though you're dealing with CHK).
Note: The odds would be much better per another normal, non-scandal operator. Yet, because of the unique mess that CHK has painted itself into, there are many issues to consider. Mostly, I tell folks to never count on royalty income from any operator until the "check clears the bank" (or the direct deposit bounces into whatever account).
So, take heart. Be pessimistic, and then hope for the best. You might could get into pay before the end of the year, if not sooner.
Good luck.
Sesport, good news for shareholders and employees, not so good for the top staff. McClendon is still neck deep in poo. I don't think he'll fair too well after the shake up is over, but he may be able to stay out of jail.
Those reins lead somewhere else other than the guys sitting on top of the stagecoach.
I not sure I find all those links w/o them being posted here..so for me its convenient. I saw the stuff about today's board meeting on business channel and thought people on site might like to know...not everybody sits in front of tv all day or is hooked to Ithingys..I know I am not.
Things were sure to happen in Tulsa ..sooner or later and it turned out to be sooner..I would like a post telling me what happened at the board meeting today.
So far as whether any thing I think or say is meaningful for discussion..can't say. But I enjoy all the posts ..Dear Jay try to put away your critic gene for a few days and see if you are happier.
Oh, and Jay, some of the stuff I post is from things people tell me personally..and sometimes in most unexpected ways and places. For instance..we all know that we curious about what is going to happen and what is happening around the shale.
This week I was out at a pipeline site with a friend to check on the width area they were clearing for one. She thought they were clearing more then 50' width.
I assured her that 50 feet was same as 50 yard line on football field and looked about right to me..
Then the supervisor on the job came over and chatted. He seemed pleasant and seemed to know a little about the business and his take is that drilling will really pick up after election.
Now what that means who knows. After all he isn't one of the suits, or the gurus who have been so wrong about predictions around here. Just a guy that does a job.
But you know, I appreciated that he took the time to chat with an old woman who was there when they were putting up derricks made of wood in Kilgore, Tx.
Friday 6/8/12 there is a forced by share holders board meeting of Cheaspeake in Tulsa this morning. Predictions are that Ichaan will replace the CEO, several board members will be gone and replaced by new ones, changes coming.
In the meantime there is 'stuff' going on about natural gas and how great it is on Squawk..had a guy on show convert vehicle from gasoline to natural gas right there in minutes.
Its just one blurb after another this morning about how great it is (NG) and how easy it will be to install supply sites across the country this morning.
So guess we wait and see who becomes CEO and what actions and results come.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
