"Does anyone else think that the anti coal agenda will help nat gas prices? If so how much?

That's all I want to get at."

As long as we can keep showing that natgas is CLEANER THAN COAL then it will help natural gas prices. Its the combo of lower priced and cleaner that has everyone excited. But, King Coal has both $$$ to lobby with and lots of union members who will call their reps. That's a hard combination to beat.

Oddly, in the town I live in today the local Occupy group is protesting trains carrying coal onto seaports for Asia. Maybe I should grab a red bandana and go out to join them? LOL!

And, please, please don't take it personally/politically when I and Adubu bring up the politics of the site. Both of us have had our hands slapped by the mods!  (I still don't think I deserved it)  But, GHS is a unique and very helpful board partly as a result of Keith's politics.

I was surprised yesterday when I saw that Nat gas used for electric power generation equaled coal for the first time in America. That's why I posted this discussion.

Oh don't worry about me, I've had my hand slapped so much on other forums that I now wear kevlar gloves when I type.

I don't think King Coal will ever dominate domestic electrical production again - but they won't be really gone for decades and will put up a hellava fight while they can.  They cannot stop natgas - but they can slow it down.

Natgas for electricity is the "game changer" we have all been hoping to have for the future. Bring manufacturing back the US - that's our only long term hope for a viable economy IMO.  We can wait years for natgas trucks and cars, but we can retire coal plants today and built natgas electrical plants for tomorrow.

Coal has Big Powerful Lobby and Congress drinks their Cool-Aid about "Clean Coal" but IMO there is no such thing as Clean Coal. Just need to Export the Coal to China they want it.

Welcome to the Market places...but remember where the coal-fireds are...If the price of NG in TX/LA is less than $2.50 then we will eventually say good-bye to the coal-fireds in TX and this ain't war - welcome to the market place...if you own utilities bonds then carefully review and revise your portfolios

Unfortunately for TX/LA the downing of more coal fireds in NE US - PA-NY-Ohio the greater demand for PA-NY-OH fracked gas and ever declining need to import via existing NG pipelines from TX/LA - they do NOW have a problem with NGLs and they don't have enough processors and exporter to clear the storage...TX/LA has the same problem - we need the exports of NG and then consider pipeline pumping NGLs to Canada so they can spike the OilSands CRude to improve flows (reduce pumping costs) to ship to Houston/Beaumont???? - Only become a temporary in pipeline storage for NGL - til someone finds the petrochem processors rather than the coal-fireds and petcoke fired power plant - Stallions may be stampeding away from Matagorda Co TX

IT ain't war it is friendly competition between suppliers to current market conditions Tom
