I had been working with Triad to send me a lease that the rest of my family was sent and paid for last summer. Last night I got an email from Triad with the following news. I won't post the entire email, just the troubling part.
Triad: We were advised this morning by Southwestern that there would be no additional leasing in Columbia County for the foreseeable future. They have written letters to every lessor that has a lease in hand notifying them that the lease has expired. We are now employed on a day to day basis. This was very bad news. I was hoping to be in Magnolia for several more months.

well said.
I mentioned above on page 1 of this thread that we have a lease in S11&S14-23N-6W negotiated by the broker Flora-Bama in August of 2009, thought to have been working for EOG. My guess is that EOG has now assigned the lease to SWN. In any event, the lease's primary term ends in August of this year, but there is an option to renew it for 2 years at $200/acre and 20% royalty. We have not yet heard from the lessee, but a landowner just east of us, who leased to the same broker for the same terms in July of 2009, has just received a check from the lessee for the 2-year extension. This makes me think the lessee will also exercise its 2-year-extension option for our property. These properties are 1.75-2.75 miles due west of the SWN Garrett unit in S7-23N-5W.
So there is still some interest in this area.
We received our lease renewal checks for the above lease yesterday, July 20, from T S Dudley, representing Southwestern. This lease had changed hands several times: from Flora-Bama to EOG, from EOG to Pinebelt, and from Pinebelt to Southwestern. All of this property is less than 1.75 miles west of the western edge of the Garrett unit.
I hope this bodes well for future drilling in this general area.
maybe, maybe not. At the cost for these leases to be aquired they would be foolish not to renew.
I get your point Baron. SWN acquired leases at a low cost/acre. They also are investing millions, hoping it pays off. I got the impression Obed was encouraged on the renewal of his lease. Lease money is like gravy....it's the potatoes or a producing oil well on your property that's the main dish! I pray Obed gets both! Thanks for all your input on GHS. Soar!
Geologically speaking I would bet on Louisiana and Mississippi as the prime areas. Based on my mapping I think the best place to be is in Louisiana and Mississippi. Time will tell and I do agree with the cheap acreage concept to tie up the land until the foregoing actually materializes. There might be a sweet spot found in AR one day; however, you cannot find it unless you are drilling. The drilling dollars are primarily going to LA.
If not, you drop the acreage a few years down the road. The recent activity by Cabot and SWN as it pertains to LA and the lack there off in AR should be prove enough where the big drilling dollars are being spent and where the play is currently developing. One only needs to look at which side of the state line the big players own leases Exxon, Devon, Dan Hughes, Empressa, Dan H Hughes, BTE Energy, Lunar, Whitmar, etc. LA not AR Take the Bonus money and be thankful you got it. Be prepared for the play to move East quickly. West Carroll, East Carroll, and Isequeana will see some well drilled in the not to distant future. This is only an opinion. West Carroll may be the sweet spot????
That reminds me. XTO Exxon Mobil 2 #1 (244072) S2(35)-20(21)N-8E, Morehouse Parish recently reported updated status.

There is a Jurassic age volcanoe in the formation called the Epps Dome, right on the West carroll/East Carroll border. Thats where the sweet spot to the east may be according to a Rock Doc I talked to about it. Its right on the 9000'-11000' trend line too.
Big,
I'm sure you know what you are talking about, but why did SWN do seismic testing and drill the first well in Columbia County? I would think their geologists and other experts would know something.
There just havent been any holes poked in West/East carroll for well control, unlike the plethora of tests over in union county And Union parish
Are you suggesting that the volcano would act as trap, fracing catalyst, or scrub for the H2S, please elaborate. Thanks in advance for your specific ideas and or geological theory.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
