I think the "Mississippi Division" of the site just split off from the main site a month or two ago. Most of the members have interest in the TMS "boom" in Sw MS. You may get more knowledgeable folks to respond if you go under the play/formation heading to the Brown Dense and post. Unfortunately most of us don't know much about your area of interest. Can you please explain a bit more what the Mississippi Division means, and what the "site" is.   I understand a bit about division orders, but I don't think that is what you are referring to.

My wife's family has leased out several hundred acres in Holmes. They were told that drilling was to be started soon. I think the brown dense is what they are after.

Well, I hope he's right. And I hope you all got an attorney to draw your lease. It's encouraging to hear that land is being put together for possible drilling in the area.

Thanks for the replies. That sounds exciting Mark. I wonder if there are any producing wells in Holmes county. I haven't heard of much drilling in Holmes. I guess with the new technology the oil and gas companies are able to find new deposits. I will post again when I learn some new info.

Hello, Justin.

We also have just leased several hundred acres near Tchula that we inherited the mineral rights on.   We leased our rights to Western Energy Production in California.   You can Google Edgewater Resources and probably get some information about them.  

We quickly realized that we needed the help of professionals in negotiating our lease, since oil and gas leases are quite complicated.   You need someone watching out for your interests.   I will be glad to tell you the attorney we used to negotiate our lease and prepare it for us.   Some things, like a Pugh clause, are very important to have in your lease.   Once we obtained a lawyer, we were able to increase the money we got per acre for signing the lease, increase the percent we will get IF oil is found, and decrease the time of the lease.   The cost of the attorney was only $150.   It could save us very large dollars in the end.  The oil and gas company and the landman who may have contacted you represent their interests, not yours.

 

It is probable there is oil and gas (they are usually found together) in Holmes County that we are just now having the technology to extract by horizontal drilling, or fracking.   It is my understanding that the area was once covered by a Jurassic ocean millions of years ago and also is at the mouth of what was an ancient Mississippi River.  To my knowledge, there is no active drilling in Holmes County right now, although there was some years ago.

Thanks for the response! Our land is managed by a really good guy out of Regions Bank. They are helping to negotiate the lease. I hope we can get deal worked out and drilling will start sometime soon. Would be nice to retire early ;) (or at least get a nice supplemental income).
