Drilling permits are only good for the year they are permitted. So new ones should be announced at the beginning of the year.

Is this correct? If not educate me on the process.

Thanks

No expert, but I believe the company obtaining the permit has 12 months from issuance to commence drilling or the permit becomes void. Rules and Regulations are there on the Oil and Gas Board site. Rule 4 on page 84 has to do with permits. The hearings, past results and current Sept docket, are interesting. A lot of hearing activity concerning TMS wells in Amite and Wilkinson Counties coming up in Sept..
The permits are usually filed in the weeks preceding well spudding, at least as far as I've seen in the TMS. Unit applications come several months beforehand. Encana has several unit wells to drill through, so they may not be filing too many more of either until they work through their existing inventory. The other 4 big players will gradually file more over the coming months. In general, there will be more applications filed after the first of the year as more rigs start moving in.

Ok, so drilling permits come separate from unit applications.

May 15th, 2013 is next hearings for MSOGB.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
