Mineral owners are receiving pre-conference notice letters for SM Energy unit applications in Section 13 of 23N - 13W and Section 18 of 23N - 12W. The unitized horizon is the Pettit Reservoir A and it appears that SME will be drilling horizontal wells targeting liquids rich gas, condensate and oil. The leases for this prospect were taken for SME by JB Land.Services, LLC and Merit Energy Services, LLC. The area generally covered by this lease block is the eastern two thirds of 23N - 14W to the western one third of 23N - 11W and appear at this time to include the northern half of 22N -13W through 22N - 11W.

This is significant considering what is going on in East Texas
Just heard from a very good source that SM Energy has put together about 100,000 acres. They are paying $350/acre and 22%. Another company is about to complete a horizontal in the Pettit and plans on acidizing the well today. I cannot find who is drilling this well or even where it is.
Just saw new JAG location, Mott Road, T23/R12/Sec23.
JAG Operating has a lot of experience with vertical Haynesville Sand wells. I don't think any are producing 600 BOPD but they have more than one in the 300 to 450 BOPD IP range in the Springhill area. Check them out.

A landowner in 13 23n 13w was told SM would spud soon after the Baton Rouge hearing. I questioned him about the 100K acres SM supposedly had under lease. He is a landman and he said SM did a farm in with the existing operator for the CV. So maybe they were able to get that large amount of acreage. It surprises me that there is still that much acreage after all the HBP and the SWN/Whiting leasing. It is great to see another operator after another target.
SM Energy received their permit to drill today.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
