SWN may find greater interest from potential JV partners for formations other than the Brown Dense across their 500,000+ acres of S AR/N LA leasehold.

I expect to see XTO division of Exxon-Mobil to be a JV partner.

Who knows, but I would bet on either a major that isn't interested in drilling there, maybe a Shell or Total, or a foreign national company, such as Petrobras or someone like that.  I don't think a company with operating expertise here in the states would feel they have anything to gain from it, (Cross Timbers Oil for example has plenty to work on for themselves) but someone overseas wanting to learn about shale production may buy into it. But this is all just a guess, worth nothing at all...

Skip,

Do you believe that SW thru their BD drilling may have opened up

some interest in more shallow formations throughout their 500,000 ac.

prospect.??

Jim B.

That's a possibility, Jim, but I think it more likely that certain companies had pre-existing interests in shallower formations and zones that may benefit from the new E&P technologies.  They are just now acting on those interests because dry gas has ceased to be a profitable focus and they need liquids production.  Not strictly oil but gas wells with significant liquid fractions:  oil, condensate and NGLs. SWN leased up such a large area that it makes it difficult for other operators to get a foot hold.  They can drill around the SWN leasehold or try to negotiate drilling rights for the depths they are interested in from SWN.  A JV partner could make a decision to invest based on the potential value of formations other than the Lower Smackover.  I think that would be great because it looks likely that much of the 560,000 acre SWN leasehold is not prospective for the Brown Dense.  It may however have Pettit, Cotton Valley, Haynesville or other zones with potential.

Here is Mueller's interview with Bloomberg.

So quiet, I feel like everyone is holding their breath.  This play is far from dead.  With a dozen+ companies significantly invested across a very diverse leasehold, there is still a lot of opportunity for experimentation and risk-taking.  Any new boots-on-the-ground reports from Union Parish?  Is any leasing going on? Seismic proposals?

Well it's good to see they are still trying.

Does anyone have any information about Tellus operating company drilling a smackover well near Athens??

The only active well permit that Tellus has in LA is this one:

This may be old news, this is an article in Arkansas Business Magazine about the Brown Dense and SWN.
