Thanks, obed.  The lateral length is curious.  Why so short?

Good question, Skip. Maybe SWN is worried that the 4000 bopd expected from this 4000-ft lateral is all they can handle from one well. LOL

LOL!  That's a good spin.  However I wonder how the mineral owners in the unit may feel about leaving so much of the formation untapped.

i think given that the straight hole has produced better than anticipated that the long laterals may not add that much more incremental production volume but may to flattening out the decline curves.  Perhaps with the trouble they have seen drilling the longer laterals shorter ones just make economic sense.  I have been wondering about a  more east-west lateral approach.  We know that past depositional environments can be influenced by facts that may cause them to be somewhat directional in permability. certainly given that the vertical hole rates were good it makes me think a different approach may yield some different answers.  I guess the cores would have given them some hint of that.   Thinks that make you go MMMMM...

I would be surprised if the decline rate of a vertical BD well would be economic.  A number of tight formations have  exhibited strong early production from verticals but depleted rapidly.  As Mueller has stated a number of times IP 120 and 180 will be important in modeling the decline characteristics of the BD.  So April to June should provide some clarity to the decline question.

DeSoto Drilling #21 has been assigned to the Dean 31-22-1 2-Alt.  Currently being reported "As Directed - Tite Hole".

02/22/13: SET 10-3/4" CASING @ 2084' W/ 599 SX. 02/23/13: TEST SHAFFER & CAMERON BOP'S TO 5000 PSI FOR 30 MINS. TEST OK. 02/25/13: DRILLING AHEAD @ 2584'.

Latest SONRIS Lite report of 3/11/13 for the Dean horizontal:

03/04/13: DRILLING AHEAD @ 8266'. 03/08/13: SET 7-5/8" CASING @ 9561' W/ 822 SX. 03/09/13: RE-TEST BOP'S.

Looks like they'll TD in 30 days or less if no problems are encountered.

Looks like the Dean horizontal is now making its turn:

3/18/13, DRILLING AHEAD AT 10,369'.

03/25/13: PRESENT DEPTH @ 12926'. RE-TEST BOPS.

Looks like they are being very careful, TD most likely within the week

Anyone know how much time it takes to test the BOPS? Just wondering whether they count it in drill days.

4/1/13, TOTAL DEPTH AT 13,800'
