I heard today that a company called Cougar Land Co. was leasing land to do a 3D seismic on 118K acres covering 200 sq. miles along the Ar-La stateline. It supposedly will start NE of Haynesville north into Ar into 19S 19W all the way over to Webster Parish. This is a very good source and he was offered $15 per acre. Has anyone else been approached by this company? This sounds like really good news.

Just received letter from Cougar for seismic testing in AR, old Walkerville Community. We are proceeding with the seismic testing and are currently under a lease with SWN.
Bill, if you don't mind me asking, specifically where near Walkerville? (I'm guessing yours is about 1 mile southwest of beautiful downtown Walkerville?) I'm about 2 miles southeast of there. As of today, haven't been contacted.
2 miles south off Hwy 19. Been a long time since I have been back there. Any news you hear I welcome it. I am in Georgia. Thanks.
Thanks Bill. That's maybe even a little closer to our location. Don't know if he was any relation to you, but Chester Burns was a good friend to my dad, Vernon Dailey.
Yes, Ches was my uncle.

I met with Cougars head land man several times in last 2 weeks. They have field office in Homer staffed by 15 permit persons. IMO that Whiting is involved, and perhaps others. Perhaps XOM(XTO), Marathon, COP, etal. Much land is HBP. Some HBP land is held only to base of SMK plus 100 feet. But many older leases have no restrictions.. Many leases obtained by Whiting included permit to do seismic surveys. Whiting play appears to be eveything from Cotton Valley group to base of BD.
much land in study area is HBP

Are Marathon and Conoco actually leasing or athey likely looking for a farm in?

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
