First off, my personal guess is that Skip does not work for CHK - I suspect he has some contacts there, as well as at most of the major players in the region.  My general understanding of Skips recommendation on CHK has been to seek out the advice of a qualified landman or oil & gas attorney, and that suing CHK in the current environment (or other operators) is swimming upstream when the court system in LA is stacked against them.

With regard to the current situation, I'm glad he isn't trying to blow smoke up my rear end - for whatever reason, the amount of time take to drill the current well is long - even allowing for coring,  I haven't heard him beat anything along the lines of WLL ruined the play! (like some have said regarding Anadarko and the Austin Chalk).

I'm currently watching something similar happen in the Eaglebine - where SM, Range, XTO, and others have all gotten stuck on horizontals and appear to have killed one particular area - sure we know there is gas/oil there, but for whatever reason, skilled and decent operators haven't been able to make it work.  The wells produce, but the number of drilling days runs the costs up beyond that which is economic.

We see other stuff like this in the TMS - some people say one area is going to be good, while others say different areas will be good.  As long as one if providing some context for their opinion, even if it is biased by their experience and opinion, I say more power to them,

The ultimate question is has WLL learned from this well, and what comes next.  Something tells me that this or other message boards will have little influence on the ultimate outcome.

I do not know what the delay or tactic is. I can only say, I heard from people let go by the leasing agent after the cessation, there was talk of XOM involvement and interest in WLL. It was my understanding it was not just the acreage they were interested in. This is simply rumor but could explain the inordinate delay or some type of testing on the pilot vertical.

I am taking the option of thinking they simply screwed up and hopefully they will continue with their plans.

dbob, I have to admit that I do know some employees of CHK.  Specifically the ones who put on the Haynesville Shale Bass Tournament.  And the only time I have any contact with them is at the tournament each year.  They put on a great event and support worthy charitable causes.

As to other operators or land companies, nope don't know any of them. I am told however that some of them know me from my posts here on GHS.  That's second hand from members who I have assisted.

ENERGY DRILLING  #7 63 DAYS DRLG @ 9768'  7/26/13

I have seen it happen before on several plays where the interest just goes away from the operators. Things change. Skip has always preached to the crowd here on GHS that the bonus money is not as important as a good lease. For many the bonus money will be like beer through a goose and they will be stuck with a crap lease for maybe 25 years. Skip has spent countless hours over the past 5 years trying to educate folks  here on GHS. Wishing and hoping don't make a play  happen, neither does playing a play down make it not be there. It is either there or it is not. If an operator sees they can make money then it may be drilled and it ain't going to make any difference what me or Skip says.

This discussion seems to have degraded into a "dump on Skip" piece.  My 5-year experience is that there are a few landmen who post on this site, Skip being one of them, whose posts have been invaluable to me (and probably to many others).  I occasionally correspond with them privately when I have a question about my particular situation and they have generously taken the time to write back with very useful information.  In the case of Skip, he once pointed me to an obscure part of the Louisiana Mineral Code that led me to find that I owned mineral rights that I though had long-ago prescribed.  I called the company that was drilling the land, and their rep was very surprised that anyone knew that law, and I now have a lease and am richer for it.  I think that regular users of this site know which of these landmen are unbiased, fair, and working independently of the big companies, and I would not hesitate to put Skip in that group.

Ask the Whiting Company Man at the Jackson well, other than him, sonris or Skip's rig report are really the only sources of info on the Jackson well.  I'm just ready to see Whiting reach total depth and produce the Jackson, as this has to be a well from hell for them.

John, you know how rumors are. I heard they lost circulation 3 times and finally had to plug back all the way to 1800 ft and start over. Kicked off about 3 weeks ago. They should still be TD' by now. I don't know why SONRIS is so far behind. But it does sound like the well from hell.

Hopefully we will know something this week Tony.  Glad to see you back on the board.

Anyone know anything  about the outcome of the Whiting Unit hearing for the Lower Smackover 960 ac Unit in 4 - 22N - 7W  (640ac)    33 - 23N - 7W (320ac) Reservoir A defined as depths of 11,277' & 11946' as measured in the #244830 Langford #1.

Held  9 AM July 16,  2013.

Jon, I don't see a Field Order for this unit from the Commissioner of Conservation yet posted in the SONRIS data base. I think he has 30 days or so to take action on it, though, so  it will probably be posted within about 2 or 3 weeks from now.

Thanks Obed.
