ShreveCentre Coalition
Regular Meeting
December 2, 2008

A regular meeting of the ShreveCentre Coalition Board of Directors was held December 2, 2008 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Parish Hall. President Jack McLeod called the meeting to order at 6:30. Jack introduced guests, Hershel Downs, Diana and Ron Canady, and Joey Greenwald. There was a majority of members in attendance to conduct business. The November 6, 2008 minutes were approved as distributed to the board of directors.

Directors returned the large maps. It was suggested they start a new spreadsheet of new NBLOI they may receive so Gif Gillen can be contacted at a later date to shade any lots that need to be updated. Jack asked for any neighborhood association representative that has not had an opportunity to shade the neighborhood they represent. Gerry Morton took map 2 and Mary Richter took map 3.

Gif Gillen reported that he needs to transfer the information on our maps to maps he can present to major oil companies. He is working with the MPC who is helping as a community project. It will be very advantageous to present the maps showing the total acreage represented and the locations including section, township, and range.
Hershel Downs will let the negotiation committee use one of his lease requirement agreements as a guide to develop the lease for SCC.
Gif again mentioned that drilling is taking place north of Hwy 1 and Ellerbe Road. It will help us when they start laying pipes to get gas to the refineries because the companies will need more land.
Jack got permission to give Tom Mattox of the Downtown Development Authority who is now working for the city on leases Gif’s email address.

Jack McLeod and Larry Farley attended the Haynesville Shale Expedition to see if they could gather any new information.
The question was asked again about those people who have already signed a lease. It was noted that they would have to deal with the oil company they signed with.
We were reminded to tell our members to beware of letters like the American Royalties, LP letter sent to the Apple Tree neighborhood. They want to buy an interest in your mineral rights. This opportunity is not in your best interest. Jack will scan this letter and send it to the board. At the request of the board, this information will also be placed on our website.
Larry Farley asked if the board of directors is interested in hearing from the representative of a Texas oil company who would like to make a presentation to us regarding mineral leasing. This company will have the capability of buying several sections of land and putting pipelines to the refinery. It was agreed to ask this person to come to our January meeting.

There was no unfinished or new business to be presented at this time.

Letters of Intent delivered to incorrect neighborhoods were distributed to the correct one.

The next SCC meeting will be Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 6:30.

Being no further business to conduct at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 7:25

I'm thinking more along the lines of urban drilling and production. Well sites, pipelines, construction, traffic, etc. Then there could very well be legal hurdles associated with inner-city development. The list of potential challenges would be a long one. And not every operator would be willing to take on the unknown. Scary, eh?
It will be familiar territory to CHK.
Yes Jim, but some of the sections near the river are not a square mile. There are also townships with more than 36 sections. I believe it will be intersting to see how these are unitized. Will they be combined? Will they still form 640 acre units when the sections are not 640 acres? There are also units for other zones in this area that where formed long ago that do not conform to the section lines.
Being a tight group is a wonderful thing. Unless you have all your eggs in one basket.

What do you do if you arent contigious (in a rural setting ) , because they have already hit the larger landowners and gotten them under lease ? Do you quit ? Nope, you do the next best thing. You stick as many 100 acre chunks per section together that you can. Will this stop them from drilling ? Nope ! But you can sure be a pain in the hind-end.

If you just encompass several sections in a township, even tight ones, you still dont control much area. They could hop around you for quite a while in a neighborhood setting. They would have more trouble hopping around sections and townships tho.

You speak of the importance of the group mainly for knowledge for the ignorant. That is very important but not the only good reason. When you are dealing with little groups isolated from each other , you lose the benefit of the grouping in several instances. First you lose the knowledge of whats going on around you. Isolation. Secondly you lose the power of force. If you can cause a hick-up in more then one place at a time , you force them to be a little more attentive to what the group needs. Thirdly, it isnt about making yourself attractive. Either you is or either you aint! Fort Worth will be very telling as to how this urban thing works out for Shreveport and all its roof-tops and sidewalks. In my opinion you cannot create attraction from a marketing standpoint. You create value and worth. That is very attractive to them.

If we were smart , there would be but one group. Whats that old saying ? He with the most, makes the rules. While that could never be pulled off because of egos and of course the many different clauses that tickle each of our fannys. Different tiers here and there.
What used to make unions so good ? Location? Sheer numbers? Nope ! The act of everyone being on the same page and being willing to just say "No,thats not good enough." Not being o.k. with your neighbors getting less then you. Or the people 2 sections over getting twice what you got or vise/versa.

Being on this site day in and day out for nearly 10 months has taught me a lot about the O&G business and how this whole thing works. I have learned quite a bit about life itself as well. But there is one thing that I havent learned through all of the reading ,writing, bickering and laughing is this......................................... That I will never know enough not to need help. Whether it be someone watching my back or someone to hold their hand over my mouth to keep me from saying something stupid when the time comes in negotiations.Or simply having someone there that knows more about something then me.

There are many different studys and scenarios that we can cling to and quote , depending on where we sit on the fence. But one thing is for sure. This thing is for keeps. This aint about helping the industy out of a hole , anymore then it was about them helping us out of a hole early on. If you have a small lot , this thing isnt going to be life changing for you. But for those with a little more acreage it very well could be. You must do everything in your power to make it just that. We do not matter to them but our minerals matter. As long as we have those minerals it keeps us in a place to improve the very existance of our lives. Take your shot. You probably only have this one if you are like most folks I know. Good night gents and ladies, have a good one.
That is not always how they form a unit jim.
They are typically matching the existing units already in place for the cotton valley. As we get into town where there are no existing units, and the sections are irregular, it could get intertesting.
There are no rules that say a unit has to be a square mile.

Case in point that all townships are not square. this is from S. LA.
Don't know if this has been asked, but don't you mean that the range is 6 X 6? The Township, although 6 miles deep, runs east-west across the entire state.
A rang is just part of the coodinate...They are called townships. Township and Range is like longitude and latitude.

This is a good read and worth the time.

Baron. Thanks. It is a good read.
Sorry, Baron, that wasn't meant for you. I was addressing Mr. Krow's comment.

"Townships are square, six miles wide and six miles deep."

I wasn't sure that, after all this time, I didn't have it confused. But if I had gotten it after pouring over maps, that perhaps it was a type. Just didn't want anyone reading who is just learning to get confused.

Although the townships are mostly 6 miles deep (running north-south), it's mostly the ranges that are 6 miles wide running east to west.
