KTBS, Channel 3, Shreveport will air a special report on the Terryville Complex Sunday on their 10 O'clock newscast.  For those who do not have access to the KTBS broadcast, I'll post a link to the feature story on the station's website when it becomes available.

Times are tough in the oil and gas patch these days.

Oversupply means low prices. That's good for consumers but bad for the energy business. Drilling has been cut back and thousands of people in Louisiana are out of work.

But head east on Interstate 20 and things are humming.

It's an area called Terryville -- a rich energy field centered that stretches across parts of Lincoln Parish, Bienville Parish and Jackson Parish -- with more than just natural gas.

There's something buzzing about 70 miles down the road from Shreveport.

It's the sound of new energy and new money.

"The entire oil and gas industry knows what's going on in Lincoln Parish," said Skip Peel, a Shreveport-based independent landman.

It's the Terryville Energy Field, where drillers are finding staggering amounts of natural gas.

Peel continues to make a living in the field, despite the local downturn.

"These wells are monsters. They compare to any of the best wells in the entire United States," he said.

Terryville Complex -- part of the Cotton Valley Formation -- was long overshadowed by nearby Haynesville Shale, despite the economics.

In 2011 and 2012, Haynesville waned when the market tanked. It was a familiar taste to those who remember the downturn in the 1980s.

"Everything that was tied to the oil and gas business. And so when it went to south everything went with it so it was a really tough time for a lot of folks," said Peel.

But some drillers never gave up on Terryville. The recent uptick is the result of a horizontal drilling technique that's helped wells produce more natural gas, even compared to Haynesville.

SEITEL is doing the mapping around Hwy 80 west of Ruston now.

Mr. Link is referring to "plat books" which show surface ownership in a parish or county broken down by section-township-range or survey.  Seitel is conducting a proprietary seismic shoot for a client.  The plat book tells you who owned the surface at the time of publication and the seismic provides an image of the sub-surface geology.

Have they started drilling in the Terryville field again.  I heard they have not since prices went down. People are still waiting.  Hopefully soon.

MRD never stopped drilling in the Terryville Complex.  They are running three rigs there now.

That is great news!  Checks coming soon!

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
