Just wondering if anyone knows about Haynesville Shale activity in the Spring Ridge/Hwy 169 area?

Buck,
Thanks. My mom actually lives in the area. She's aware of some activity but can't give a lot of specifics. They are actually going to run a pipeline through her property over Hwy 169. Were out doing seismic testing on her land the other day. I will try to get the info you mentioned so I can follow more closely.
Thanks again,
Jeff
Buck said it right. That area is right in the center of Chesapeake's activities.
Thanks Buck and Spring Branch. I do have my family's 'numbers': S6-T15N-R15W.
So does anyone know what's happening in Section 6, Township 15N and Range 15W?
I just heard they are drilling a well on Dance drive which is in range 31.
Jeff
Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, Jeff, but I'm quite sure that 15/15, Section 6 is a Fossil/Cubic/Tauren (three related companies) section. They are without a doubt about the weakest operator in the Haynesville Shale. Your problem is more a near term one rather than a long term one. Their near term problem.....no horizontal Haynesvilles to date cuz they have no $$$$$. The reason it is not a long term problem.....Horizontal Haynesville wells will eventually get drilled in Section 6 and other Fossil/Cubic/Tauren sections. It just probably won't be by Fossil/Cubic/Tauren when they finally get drilled! Hopefully they will sell out to someone and soon!
Thanks for the info. How could I verify that they own the drilling rights to this section? I do know that just across the corner from our family land that someone is getting ready to drill - just across our property line. I'm told it's in another section. Anyway, they've sent letters out within the community to see if anyone opposes to the drilling.

I suppose one company could own the rights in one section and another one could own the rights in one next to it. Oh well...if that's true, then in a way, that's ok - with the price of gas at $4.50 mmcf right now, and not predicted to recover for a while, I'd prefer to wait anyway until the price comes up.

But tell me this, why would they be performing seismic testing on our family land (last week) if they weren't thinking about drilling there?
Jeff,

I am in the same section and I was informed that Fossil/Cubic/Tauren, have no plans to drill a well in this section. My lease is terminated in August and like most, I am hoping to get interest from another company. Also I was told that the main interest and activity is south of Colquitt Rd. because the shale is much thicker and contains more gas pockets. Unfortunately, I live on Colquitt Rd. and will have to play the waiting game. If you are in the same predictament, do not resign with Tauren. I am sure that they are hoping to tie up acreage only to sell to a much larger outfit.
Thanks Boss. How can I find out for sure that Fossi/Cubic/Tauren are the companies that own drilling rights to our land? I was under the impression from my mom that Cheaseapeake is the one who leased her land. But I/she may be wrong. Our lease started Sept. 2007 and runs out in 2010. We are about 2-3 miles north of Colquitt Road. And again, why would someone be doing seismic testing on our land in the last week or so?
Jeff
I think the well you are talking about in an adjoining section is probably Chesapeake's well in T15N,R16W, Section 12. Typically the company with the most acreage leased in a section is the operator in that section and determines what is drilled and when. Fossil/Cubic/Tauren is the majority lease holder in about 17 sections in SW Caddo Parish and has drilled very marginal Cotton Valley wells in these sections to HBP the sections until other "arrangements" can be made. They have also drilled very marginal vertical Haynesville wells in several of the sections. They missed selling out @ the top of the market pricewise, but that will probably be the ultimate fate for these 17 sections. Boss Hogg, Don't worry about Colquitt Rd. It is right in the middle of the play. There is much action going on north of Cross Lake, but no horizontals have had IP's reported there as yet.
I just looked it up on Sonris and it seems that no recent well of any kind has been drilled in Section 6 by anybody. I don't know what is up with that. Does anybody know why Section 6 has not been drilled to HBP the section?
The seismic shoot is being performed for Chesapeake and covers a large from the DeSoto Parish line north to Colquitt Rd.
I also know that seismic was also being done thiss last week north of Colquitt in 16n 16w by Ches.
Herman,
Yes, that's what my family tells me (I don't live in the area).
What does it mean when they start doing seismic testing? Does it mean they are just exploring the area, or determining the best drilling place?
Spring Branch,

I checked and our lease is with Chesapeake. They are the ones doing the seismic stuff (we're north of Colquitt) and the ones behind the pipeline (according to what my family is telling me). Regarding the fact on Sonris that no recent wells have been drilled in Section 6 - I noticed the same thing. The only well drilled was in 1960 and plugged in 1976 - it happened to be on our family land (before we bought it). Strange.

By the way, how big is a section - 640 acres? Or is that a production unit?
640 acres

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
