I understand not all areas will be leased. Can anyone tell me if they are leasing close to Plain Dealing and if so approx. how much per acre? Any wells yet up there? I have a little less than 50 acres there.

Berkshire company is operator of these wells that Charlie is referring to. They are going vertical to the Smackover formation (11200 to 11600) and hitting both oil and gas. This will be their 3rd well drilled and they are Not mentioning any haynesville sand or shale but may be keeping that mum because they had to go through it! They are not offering much for leases and many folks are not leasing to them until they get the money right! Land they are drilling is on Weyheuser Timber but mineral rights belong to Bolinger Co. New location started in Sec. 3. They seem to be very secretive about these wells!
No one ever said there was a lack of gas near PD, just no Haynesville Shale.
I like to compare the Haynesville shale with the Barnett Shale. The core area in both is further south (DeSoto and Johnson, respectively). However, the thickest shale has been recoreded in areas that are further north (Wise county and 20N). In the Barnett, the thicker northern plays produce less gas, but produce substantial condensate (ie oil). I found it interesting that the 19N well also had "problems" dealing with the condensate. As a landowner in 20N, I would love to drown in that troublesome condensate - especially as it gets more and more expensive.
shale thickness is not as important as the porosity. lower porosity=less gas.
just started drilling well #3 there.......using Bronco....and Stallion.
