Reminder: Shreveport to host two mineral rights meetings

The Shreveport mayor’s office has announced two meetings to help residents learn about the leasing process in light of the discovery of the Haynesville Shale natural gas field.
The first will be Thursday, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and the second will be June 21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both will be at the Shreveport Convention Center.
Dubbed “Haynesville Shale 101,” the city will use the meetings to provide handouts with information to help residents understand the terminology associated with the Haynesville Shale, general issues related to gas drilling, mineral leases, signing bonuses and royalties.
A panel including city officials and property owners who have dealt with drilling and mineral leases will talk. A question-and-answer session will follow. Mayor Cedric Glover will be available for one-on-one conversation, according to a city news release.
Glover and several of his staff members met recently with Fort Worth, Texas, Mayor Michael Moncrief. That city has dealt for about a decade with production of the Barnett Shale.
Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation will provide light refreshments and fun activities for children while their parents attend the meeting.
