Some Basic Info-

What is Shale Gas - Natural Gas from Shale?

Shale Gas, natural gas located in shale rock, is located far beneathe the earths surface. Because shales ordinarily have insufficient permeability to allow significant fluid flow to a well bore, most shales are not sources of natural gas. Shale gas is one of a number of “unconventional” sources of natural gas; other unconventional sources of natural gas include coalbed methane, tight sandstones, and methane hydrates.

Shale has low matrix permeability, so gas production in commercial quantities requires fractures to provide permeability. Shale gas has been produced for years from shales with natural fractures; the shale gas boom in recent years has been due to modern technology in creating extensive artificial fractures around well bores. Horizontal drilling is often used with shale gas wells.

Petrohawk Energy Corporation today announced that it has completed its initial horizontal well in the Haynesville Shale. On June 27, 2008, the Elm Grove Plantation #63 (100% working interest) was placed on production. On June 29, 2008, the well produced at an average rate of approximately 16.8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day with 5,600 pounds flowing casing pressure on a 26/64 choke. The pilot hole drilled on the well encountered approximately 212 net feet of Haynesville Shale. The targeted interval in the reservoir was at 11,005 feet true vertical depth, and a lateral of 3,880 feet in length was drilled. The completion of the well included eleven stages of fracture stimulation. The Elm Grove Plantation #63 is located in Section 9 - Township 16 North - Range 11 West, Bossier Parish, Louisia

Cubic which is Fossil--Signed a bunch of acres in the old Cotton Valley before the Haynesville Shale was dicovered. So if your like I am, and signed a couple of years ago--just hang in there, we'll get ours. I've talked to them and they are in the process of locking up the land. Then they will be drilling into the sale, but like everything in the oilfield, its subject to change when I'm guessing Chesapeake takes over Fossil.
Anyone heard if Samson is going to get into the shale play. They have production in the Sibley field in Webster parish. I have 25 acres near Heflin and have been under production for about 25 years. The only thing is that the production is very small, so that means I can't get any of the lease money. Thanks
