We have all heard the Slogan "Drill Baby Drill" and the Call to allow the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) opened up to allow for it,

How Much Oil May Be in the OCS?
From the EIA 2007 Annual Energy Outlooki (AEO) and the 2007 report issued by the National Petroleum Council (NPC) we learn that there may be about 60 billion barrels of undiscovered but "technically recoverable" oil resources in the lower 48 OCS. Only about 19 billion barrels of these oil resources are in moratoria areas (in the Atlantic, Pacific, Eastern Gulf of Mexico and off the shore of Alaska) precluded by law or public policy from leasing and development. The other 41 billion barrels of undiscovered oil resources, or almost 70% of the undiscovered OCS oil resources, are in areas that are open to leasing and development.

What the above states is that only 30% (of undiscovered but "technically recoverable" oil resources) is protected
The Oil Companies already have Access to the other 70%. (of undiscovered but "technically recoverable" oil resources)

The Oil Companies problem is just Like the Gas Companies, they have a shortage of Drilling Rigs

It currently costs (2008) $600,000 a day to rent an oil exploration platform IF you can find one that isn't already committed.

Drill Baby Drill - with what? They do not have the equipment.
Give them more places to drill? They have not even got close to drilling in the 70% they already have.

So where do we get our Oil?

US Domestic Oil = 34%
Imported Oil = 66% & 1/2 of this comes from Canada & Mexico
Only 18% of Imported Oil comes from the Persian Gulf (I know that is 2 much but not all comes from the "Enemies")

Bottom line is The Oil Companies do not have enough Drilling Rigs to Drill the Places they already have or enough Refineries to make the Gas, with no plans to build any

Hurricane Ike has shut down several of the Refineries and the Cost of Gas has gone up

I could be wrong if so Please Prove it with Facts - not "He said -She said" or Political Rhetoric
