If you think we are in a mess now, what do you think is going to happen when people start defaulting on their non-secured debt? If you think some corporations are over-leveraged, what about the average American? If people have stopped paying their Mortgages, how many people are going to stop paying their credit cards?

I read a story on all places MSNBC. So I don't know how accurate these figures are but the story goes on to say that BR are up 90% since May of 2006. That's a lot of sick, divorced, lost a love one, unemployed people in three years
Do you ever wonder why some people die young and some people live to be old and die with a full life? Do you ever wonder why some peoples land was worth 20000 an acre and others are worth 2000 an acre or even nothing? Do you ever wonder why you were born tall and good looking or vice versa and your best friend was blessed with the oposite? Do ever wonder why some people have all the luck and others have none? Its because we cant all have it all! You can call it luck, you can call it a blessing you, you can call it a curse....what ever the heck you want to call it...but it is the way it is..Just like that saying "S***T happens" You know.....Sorry....Sorry Sorry....Buckle down, learn from you mistakes and try harder next time...Sorry!
Why heck! I'm not ahead I hope I didn't give anybody that impression I've got a home loan, boat loan, medical bills, dental bills, credit cards, vet bills etc. You keeping putting me at some elite status like I have tons of money and I look down on working people. I am one of those people I get up everyday and go to work so I can make ends meet.
The lady with the car I'm with you. I'm all in favor of lower interest rate loans tell that do nothing congess to get off there butt and quit worrying about Bush and pass some laws to protect us.
I hate to see there business fail. But if it didn't and they made money and became successful they would have the doo doo tax of them and would have been called greedy capitalist pigs praying on unsuspecting people.
KB,

Anyone with a heart, doesn't have a problem with the issues that you lay out. I know people like you talk about. My whole life, my mom was one of the people that you talk about. The people that do the right thing, work hard and scrape by until something bad happens. When she developed rheumatoid arthritis that crippled her she lost the only thing she owned. It wasn't really worth repossessing but they repo'd her worn out mobile home. It probably didn't bring $1000. This was when I was in college. But she expect anything else. She didn't even think of anything else. She couldn't pay so she didn't get to keep it. And mobile homes are as notorious about profit margin as the car dealership that you talk about.

But I know so many more people that are like Bill discussed earlier. The ones with the shopping addiction. The one's who believe that you are what you wear, or drive. The one's who define themselves by what they spend. The Jones's that everyone is trying to keep up with. The ones that think because they consume more that they are better than the hard working people that do right.

They aren't just on wall street either. I bet everyone on this forum knows more than a handful of the type I am talking about.

These types are usually glorified instead of vilified. These are the ones who have gotten us into this mess as much as the banking system. Nothing in our society seems to matter more than what the image is that we portray. People used to be respected for their character, now it seems they are respected for what "character" they wear, be it polo, etc.

And PLEASE don't get me started on addictions. I knew a lady once who was medicated for a shopping addition. Almost everyone is now medicated for something or another.
I consider it a blessing that I got to attend the school of hard knocks. I also consider it a blessing that I saw how hard it is to try to go through this world with no education and very little job skills. I respect my mom tremendously because she always provided for our family. But I have always tried to learn from her mistakes.

Sometimes the pain and stigma of being poor, gives you the incentive to do better. I know first hand that poor is no fun. But we have gotten to the point in this country that it almost seems to be rewarded.

If you qualify for medicaid you have one of the very best insurance coverages around. Many things are covered that are not on working families insurance policies. The middle is what is squeezed the most.
Hey Jim he got more for his money than I did.
That's a joke people.
I was diagnosed with colon cancer in October 2006. Had no savings, living paycheck to paycheck, single with health insurance. The only problem was the deductible on my insurance was $2500 and some of my medications were costing in excess of $700 per prescription. Out came the credit cards. I was lucky in that I was able to continue to work and my employer never docked me for the time I missed but I was never able to find solid ground again. I ended up filing bankruptcy to save my house. I had a very small mortgage against an asset valued at $118K and the credit card companies (2) were threatening to file suit and seize my home. I had no choice. I filed C13 and send the Trustee my payment every month.

For me it wasn't keeping up with the Jones or anyone else. It was being single, being diagnosed with a serious illness and trying to keep my head above water. It almost killed me to file that bankruptcy because for many years, I had been a debt collector. There is a difference in people struggling to make ends meet and those that spend because they can. Its really sad and I don't see a bright spot on the horizon with either candidate for President. We have to remember the President may be the Commander In Chief but without the House and Senate backing them up, they are only as good as the name plate on their desk.
lambert,

I think anyone would agree that Bankruptcy is meant for people in this situation. If my mom would have known, I'm sure she would have filed 13 also. As meager as it was, it was something she had worked for and would have loved to have kept.

Doesn't it bother you that people who don't work and get SSI, can have better health insurance than you who have worked all of your life.

Our system is broken. The entitlement programs, I believe are the biggest problem that our government faces.

Our laws, should work to help people like yourself, but it should stop rewarding the irrisponsible.
"Our laws, should work to help people like yourself, but it should stop rewarding the irrisponsible." Parker I aggree %100 but we have become a society of take and not give there for this will not work. We have to either take road (A) reform back to a true Capitalist society and economic system, or road (B) a socialistic society and economic system thus helping everyone equal and give up that opportunity that most of all of our forfathers came to america to seek! The problem is people Vote with the mintality what can they do for me....and that is the way it is going to be.
Lambert,

First of all I hope and pray you feel better and that your economic situation is better now.
As I have pointed out in previous posting there should be exceptions concerning serious illness, death of a spouse etc. These are situations than can be verified with little or no problem and where no brought upon one's self by choice.
Dorcheated,

I'm still voting for McCain unless something drastic changes but his proposal today stinks.

I don't see where O'Bama has any type of proposal but McCain's will not work.

He proposes buying Mortgage notes from banks (at face value), lowering the debt to the Mortgagor (homeowner) and lowering
interest. Guess who pays for this - you and I.

I believe there has to be some relief to homeowners that are over their heads, but this is not it. It is another life raft to the banks not the American people.

McCain is giving the election away.
Parker,
Your preaching to the choir. It's two politicians promising the moon and the sun to get elected. Let's keep it real there is gonna be a lot of disappointed folks when they find out there life is gonna change very little. McCains campaign has been a joke it's a little late to be pulling of the gloves now. HELLO McFLY.
