Has anyone got the pipeline company to agree to remove the pipeline and restore the surface if and when it abandons it?

Start at 15 and in a grudgingly compromise at no more than 60 calendar days.
You do want the pipeline off your property when it is abandoned.
If you require the removal, you should also include language something like ---
No assignment, sale or transfer shall operate to release the original Grantee or any subsequent party grantee, successor, sublessee or assignee from any obligations undertaken in this Pipeline Right of Way Agreement. In any assignment, sale or tranfer, the assignee, successor or purchaser shall become directly responsible to Grantor for all stipulations, conditions, agreements and obligations of this Pipeline Right of Way Agreement and for past, present and future actions or inactions of the Grantor under this servitude.
Don't recall having much difficulty in getting these provisions in pipeline servitudes.
Have a O&G lawyer word-up these clauses for your jurisdiction.
