A California-based energy company clenched a 10-year deal with the city of Austin to design, build, and maintain a natural gas fueling station adjacent to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (Nasdaq: CLNE) announced the agreement this morning, though it earlier reported intentions to construct the $1 million project.

Officials in previous interviews with the Austin Business Journal said the plan was instigated to support growing natural gas-powered fleets of airport parking shuttles and courtesy vehicles. Clean Energy in April signed a contract with The Parking Spot shuttle company to transition its Austin vehicles to natural gas.

The company, who’s board includes industry tycoon T. Boone Pickens, operates more than 20 airport-based pumps nationwide including in Dallas and Houston.

The 17,000-square-foot facility will operate 24 hours a day and be open to the public. Construction will begin February 2010, according to the release

This is good. Austin has always been supportive of CNG vehicles overall. I'm very glad to see this.
