Bulgaria has increased the number of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) in the country by 33% in one year, according to a report released by Overgas Inc. AD, a domestic natural gas infrastructure provider. The count for vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) now stands at 60,000. CNG refuelling facilities have also expanded, now numbering 77. A negotiated gas price reduction from 1st July, making it the best value as well as the most environmentally friendly of locally provided fuels, should help to further stimulate growth.

CNG-powered public transport has increased in popularity also amongst service providers. As of June 2009, there are 67 vehicles on CNG n Sofia, 23 in Varna, and 12 in Burgas. Hebrosbus recently announced that they are buying 30 new CNG buses to serve the Pazardzhik region, the report said.
