I guess that's the play CHK was talking about. How much are the horizontal Utica oil wells producing or is this just speculation?

Mostly speculation and core samples so far. Core samples were compairable to eagle ford in south texas.

Good luck with drilling in Ohio.  Eagle Ford is easier and cheaper... and fewer political hardships.

at least it's not dry gas, i tend to agree that texas is generally a friendlier environment for o&g but ohio has put themselves in a better position with the last round of elections.

i'm also not thrilled about the new leasing but like the article said, "[utica shale] may be one of the last big unconventional oil discoveries in the U.S."  chesapeake has made this early mover business model work in the past, there's no reason why they can't do it one more time so long as the assets are up to snuff.

JHH, the Utica Shale could be oil which would potentially give better economics than the Eagle Ford Shale.

The Good News is .... shale gas is almost everywhere under the US

and,

The Bad News is .... shale gas is almost everywhere under the US

What we need is a national consensus to use it with safety. Perhaps what's happening in the mid east right now will convince us.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
