DNR rules... if I remember correctly, it's the mineral owner where the actual surface of the drillsite is. Maybe somebody else can chime in.

I think there was a well in Nacogdoches county called the Bam-Bam. I have never understood how the came up with the name for a unit. Some units don't have anyone with the same name as the unit assiciated with the minerals that I can find. Most often they do but not always.

Also saw where Samson Lone Star will drill be Cindy Sue GU 1 Well No. 9 to 12,000 feet 9.5 miles northwest of Nacogdoches. They also have the Nelda, Gwendolyn and the Rita Rae.

Petrohawk is drilling the Jazzmaster Gas Unit Well No. 1H to 16,000 feet in a wildcat field 4.9 miles northwest of Waskom in the W. Holloway Survey, A-313 in Harrison county.

In Arkansas you can name your well whatever you want. I had some friends who drilled a well in Miller County back in the early 80's and the geologist wanted to name it the Daffy Duck No. 1. I recall they went with something more conventional. They made a well anyway.

When the well name is after the drill pad mineral owner it is easier to close the deal on the site. Sure I guess we could have the Frank Zappa #1 here in Louisiana but I think it would be highly unlikely. You might be able to find a Louis Grizzard name somewhere in the state like Formica Dinnette. I saw a pontential one in Rapides, Rastus Critten.

Of the wells we have we were able to name them what we wanted, under a corporation.

Honestly, who cares what they name the well. I just would like to see more activity in the Eastern/South Eastern part of Shelby County. I don't really care what they name a well if they place one in my Unit.

Jim,

I'd name my well the jack-a-poo #1. That's what my mom called me when she got pissed off at me.
About 20 years later asked her "mom just what the heck is a jack-a-poo" she looked at me serious and said" son your a jack-a-poo and that's all you need to know.

I still don't know what a jack-a-poo is, but I guess I'm one them.
