Monroe Field has been a great shallow gas producing area.  Numerous producing wells <3000'.  No deep wells in the vicinity.  It's always interesting when a company drills a relatively deep well where there has been none before.

You're right. Especially when they put their name beside it and not some private drilling or leasing company.

The horizontal wells required to test the Brown Dense will quite likely be in the name of the company or companies actually behind the exploration as small locals and obscure drilling contractors do not have the expertise to drill those wells and no energy company in their right mind would entrust such a well to them.  The two horizontal wells to date are a good reminder of that.  In the early days  (2006 and 2007) of the Haynesville Shale Play all the unit applications and all the wells were by the major independents who went on to develop the Play.  Leasing is a different matter and energy companies often use third party land companies to assemble lease blocks.  There is nothing illegal or unethical about that.  It just makes for a challenging puzzle to try and solve.  IMO, the issue most deserving of concern for AR. mineral owners is the existing Force Pooling provisions that do not allow for lessors to get fair market value in instances of unconventional reservoir development.

I find it interesting as well.  It is not far away( 5 miles) from my property in Morehouse parish.  Will be interesting to see how it works out.  I hope it is a success.   Our section over there had those shallow wells drilled in it.

12 miles north puts you in Arkansas. Would this be clsoe enoguh to be part of the "stateline" play

According to this application the Smk lime is at around 7,000ft in the area so I would say it is probably the Brown Dense.

It's not surprising.   Devon usually permits in its name.  They do not issue a lot of press releases nor invest a lot of time seeking any media attention.  The GHS members have been following the Devon-Donner well in Winn Parish (S/N 242736) for some time.  It is a horizontal Mooringsport well.  Devon has extensive leasehold across North LA. and is aggressive in seeking additional development opportunities.  Few companies can match Devon's experience and technical capabilities when it comes to drilling horizontal wells.  We can follow this new well through rig reports and the SONRIS database but don't expect much if anything else.  Every hole is a tight hole with Devon.

This will be an interesting well to watch.

 

I did find it interesting that their well plat included four sections, all of which are the same mineral owner. This could be an attempt to HBP a large lease. It is timber company acreage acording to the plat, so I would assume that the lease is pretty sofisticated and may even have some developemnt requirments.

The well location is perfect for a future "super pad" horizontal development if necessary.
