What is the actual process to get paid on RI in a gas well?

After I sign a lease, a well is drilled and once it produces, the operator sends out Division Orders, I sign and return it and then I get paid?  What if I never signed a DO, but received checks?   What is the operators recourse (to get their $ back)?

Unless your lease states otherwise, a lessee can require you sign a DO before paying royalty, as long as the terms of the DO comport with statutory law.  Follow this link to the Texas Mineral Owners group where this is discussed.  http://www.gohaynesvilleshale.com/group/knowyourrightstexasminerall...

The operator can always send you a DO later, even after already paying you some royalties.
