Skip or Les B., or anyone else who might have local knowlege.  Encana has drilled the Blackstone Ivory 5 in 13/9, Section 5 of Red River Parish.  Would it be possible for you to show me where this well is located within Section 5.  Encana drilled this well as a vertical and my fear is that there is a fault running thru the section which may account for the vertical.  They are just not drilling any verticals at this stage of the game, so why would Encana drill one in this section?   Any thoughts or knowlege about why Encana would drill this section with a vertical and where the well is placed in the Section would be greatly appreciated a I own a few mineral acres in the section.  It is just a mystery to me unless there would be a geologic reason for the vertical.  Thanks in advance.

Springbranch can you post a map of the fault in north Desoto? What section did you avoid? Does that section already have an east west lateral? If so, think that is where I have reserved minerals. Operator has not come back to drill a second well, yet in sections just south of mine there are multiple wells being drilled in the sections
I wish I could, but I can't, KCM. I have a map of a small area of the play that has a large fault drawn on it. It is a wall sized map. I can, however, suggest you look at some of the past Petrohawk presentations. They have taken the time to draw the faults into several of their maps. If you enlarge the maps on your computer you can see the faults quite plainly. They appear as diagonal slashes of varying lengths and widths colored in grey. To answer your question about the Section I avoided because of a fault......it was Section 11 of T14N,R14W. IMHO if your Operator drilled a typical Horizontal well running north to south in your section, and the well was of a normal quality for a Haynesville, in all probability, the reason a second well hasn't been drilled is NOT related to a fault.
the operator drilled an east west lateral in Sec. 21 of 15/14, so I assume they were avoiding a fault. Thank goodness we only have a small amt. of reserved minerals in that area.
Someone on this site mentioned that you (I think it was you) were familar with the boundaries of the Bossier. If it is you, do you think the Bossier is in the Desoto 14/14
KCM, I'm guessing that 14/14 is too far north to have real good chance for commercial development of the Bossier Shale.
The vertical well could possibly just be a test well to monitor pressure in that area. It would be quite an expense but I have seen companies monitor formation pressure on existing vertical wells near horizontal wells during the frac.
That would certainly be one reasonable explanation however the only pressure monitoring wells depicted on HA plats that I have reviewed were located in the approximate middle of the section/drilling unit.
I wouldn't think a monitoring well would be in the SE corner of a section and which is a large well pad from which to drill other horizontal wells, with one currently drilling.
SB, please see the attached for the diagrams of the two wells.

There are various possibilities but I concur with Muddigger the most likely is EnCana is drilling a pressure monitoring well. This could be the area they plan to pilot their Gas Factory concept this year.

If it were related to faulting, EnCana could have simply moved the well or drilled the lateral in a different direction.

Once drilled I am interested in the casing size since this would allow the well to be coverted to a horizontal at a later date.

Les, the well has been drilled and is awaiting completion. 10 3/4" surface to 1,800 or so ft. then 7 5/8" to 10,363', then 5" to 13,880' with 640 sx cement. Your thoughts?
SB, if the 5" is a liner (ie not to surface) then I believe it could be pulled and a lateral drilled. If 5" casing to surface then I am going with the pressure monitoring idea.
