Here is one small thing we all can do as we consider home improvements, or experience mechanical breakdowns, that include replacing and/or updating hot water heaters. Tankless whole house water heaters are widely used overseas but don't seem as common in the US. This is just one manufacturer, but also shown on the web page is the information for a federal tax credit/incentive. Just think, to be able to shower and never again have to experience the sudden jolt you get as that first wave of winter-frigid cold water hits when someone else has emptied the tank!

I was "Green" before green was cool. My Eemax tankless water heater has been in use in my kennel building since 1991. It is an electric rather than NG powered unit but a very dependable energy saving, space saving product and I highly recommend it.

Sesport, great post!! We replaced our standard water heater with a tankless model last year. Lower fuel bill, more space in the garage and no longer have to worry about a leaking water heater.
We just had ours installed last week. This was a MUST HAVE item on our list of renovations. Our former hot water heater was electric, but the new tankless unit is gas. The old unit took up a huge amount of space in the laundry room, but we were able to have the tankless unit installed in the attic. Plus we get to take advantage of the tax credit. My husband and I took showers back to back this morning and didn't have to wait 30 minutes for the heater to recover. DEFINITELY worth the investment!
Guys & Gals - I wasn't sure if this was being done yet in the S'port area, and guess what ... Arrrrgggghhhh ... I just had my tank replaced last year. And, I thought there were only gas models, now I see there are electric ones, too. I had the luxury of experiencing one of these when I lived for about a year in an Asian country.

LP - I imagine it's great having one for the dogs, especially if you're talking about more than a few. Any reason why you haven't gone tankless at the house? I see your unit is almost 20 yrs. old, what's the repair & maintenance like?

Les - So, now you're keeping secrets? ha, ha, ha Okay, give it up, what percentage would you say you shaved off your energy bill? And were you able to take a tax credit?

getoverit - I'm jealous! :0)

Have a great evening everyone! Best - sesport :0)
