Activity in the Haynesville slowed as U.S. independent operators have moved to core plays with better returns at current prices. Operators like Comstock and EXCO have looked to the Haynesville to start refrac programs that show promise of higher returns.

In NW LA, for Q4 2015 and Q1 2016 (to date) there have been 63 HA permits issued.  Bossier - 3, Caddo - 6, DeSoto - 32, Red River - 19 and Sabine 3.  Although this is obviously a steep decline, the fact that Vine Oil & Gas has 23 of those permits tends to mask just how low drilling activity has fallen for all the other operating companies.  Take out CHK's 18 permits in those six months and you get an average for all the remaining operators of ~3.6 new permits per month.
