Yeah, because Exxon and COP and CVX are all foreign companies. Even BP and Shell hire U.S. citizens, thousands of them. Opening up more drilling will result in thousands of US jobs, not to mention all of the support jobs and the oil NOT COMING FROM FOREIGN SOURCES>
Firstly, there would be a large amount of geological and geophysical studies done on the area pre-leasing. Companies like XOM and others would need roughly 50 people to conduct these studies, and hire geophyic companies to shoot the seismic surveys, further employing many more. Then once the bids are awarded, there would be a series of large teams put togethter working on exploration studies, plans, and drilling preparations. then a rig company would be hired along with many people to drill the wells and then if oil were found, large developments would be kicked off. These developments include a lot of engineers and planners here in the US, even if the vessels are built overseas. i used to work on these things for projects in the GOM and even if the facility was built in the Far East, there are many many US folks working on it. Then it would have to be operated, which occurs through the labor of lots of US citizens. I think you are way out in left field on this. Have you ever been involved in a multi-billion dollar exploration/development project for a major oil company? I've been on teams that built some of the deepest water facilities and there are Americans everywhere.
