It depends first on what comprises your unit. If it is a governmental section, it could be more or less than 640 acres, as all sections are not the same size. But then you also get into the case of land grants, which are irregular shaped. If you furnish the section-township-range we might can help.

MY RESPONSE:
If they lease only part of a section, does that mean that the entire section is privy to the royalties, or is it only the part of the section they leased? Our lease only references section 9, but we are very, very close to the border of the section.

If you go to the Clerk's office in Mansfield there should be a plat book that depicts the sections and the acreage for each as surveyed by the USA back in the 1800's.

By the way, my Google Earth shows your section to be 648 acres (using data from the BLM). I would verify by looking at the official plat.

SO far most units are formed by using the section lines.

I know our section, per the assessor is 640, but I am not sure if this means that CHK leased the entire section; therefore, our royalty will be divided between all owners within that section. Or, if more than one company can own in that section or if the royalty division will only consist of what CHK has leased from our section. I think you might have replied to that in your previous post, but I was not able to fully understand it. Many thanks.
