My brothers and I are in the process of having our mothers succession done. We have been discussing leasing the property with JW Porter ( Chesapeake), but the rep. with JW Porter is pressuring us to hurry and sign. She (JW Porter) is telling us Chesapeake will force pool us if we don't hurry. Can they do this? And what do you suggest we do at this point.

You win. I don't want to fight. You are smarter than I am.

As an aside, whenever I start thinking that I am the center of the universe I check in with my wife and she sets me straight.....:-)

Best,

read it again...you is everbody...."your" is you....who's on first??
Gotta say something. I am so thankful for the surprise bonus this year for leasing our land. My grandfather left each of his many grandchildren land and/or mineral rights, and I feel so blessed. We got enough money to buy two new vehicles and set aside enough for taxes. We made a great deal and have had NO regrets. ABSOLUTELY, nothing has gone wrong and we look forward to 8 new wells soon.

I did not know this forum was so "heavy" or guys having a p[izzing contest. Lighten up folks.
It wouldn't be as much fun without the p(izzing contests.
I guess I have a much different perspective on JW porter and Cheasepeake I think they will try to take advantage if they can my advice from personal experience is go to Devon or XTO or any other company. See if they will lease your land. Let me just point out, I think that Cheasepeake is the only company in the Haynesville shale play that did not honor agreements and in some cases leases with people.
DUH
We leased part of our acreage (38 acres in DeSoto) to Petrohawk in May of last year. The whole experience was pleasant, no problems. We're going to sign a lease tomorrow with Chesapeake for the remaining acreage (44 acres in DeSoto). The landman is supposed to have a check with him tomorrow when we sign. I'll keep everyone posted on whether or not we have any problems.
Did he have the check? I hope he did! I am still waiting since October for a check from Chesapeake since signing a lease.
WHAT????? We got our check right after signing. You should call them and check on that!!!!!!!!!
I call them daily! The lawyer says he just does not know! Porter will not return calls. Who did you sign with? We were in a pool and signed through a lawyer in Coushatta. So disappointed!
Yeah, the landman did have the check when we signed the lease. $4250 per acre on 44 acres (27-12-11); 3yr lease, no 2 yr option; 25% royalty....and Chesapeake recently applied to unitize this section. Petrohawk also recently applied to form a unit in 26-12-11, in which we own 38 acres and have already leased to Petrohawk. =)
Congratulations!
