We are moving into a phase of development where there will be an increasing demand for materials and services. The bulk of the drilling will be in the next ten to fifteen years depending on how much the boundaries of the play expand. The economic impact will be substantial. And at a time when much of the country is experiencing varying degrees of economic hardship, the Ark-La-Tex will prosper. I find it a fortunate irony that both of the last two national economic depressions occurred when oil and gas booms were taking place in our back yard.
I agree with it being ironic, but it seems we always are doing better when the national economy is down and worst when it is up. There has been at least 15 new O&G related companies move to the immediate Minden area since this play began. Most of the jobs are people that moved with their company but still they are rolling dollars into the local economy. Perhaps this time when the national economy recovers it will accelerate ours. If the goverment stays out of the way this will be by far if not already the biggest impact ever for the area.
