Dry hole?

Likely not, Max.  These appear to be stripper wells.  Many stripper wells make almost no gas and less than a barrel per day.  Stripper operators commonly have large numbers of wells.  For example, 500 wells making a half barrel per each per day is still 7500 barrels a month or about $600,000.  The wells take a lot of work but can be managed by a relatively small number of employees.

Skip, what are your thoughts on the Taylor well in Lincoln permitted to a MD of 18K but not a horizontal? This is by far a much deeper zone ever penetrated in this area...thanks.

I would expect that it is a test.  Operators will permit an extreme depth even without an intention to actually drill that deep.  Keep in mind that if they were interested in a formation that they calculate to be 12,500' True Vertical Depth and permit to 13,000' they would have to stop drilling but not paying for the rig while they applied for an amended permit for a deeper depth.  It's just easier and safer to permit much deeper than the target.  They are not required to drill to the permitted depth. The possibility of producible hydrocarbons at a depth as extreme as 18,000' is slight.  Unless they are interested in graphite.

Dave H, the permit states "non-unitized Gray Sand" as the target horizon.  The Gray Sand is a member of the Smackover Group and in the vicinity of S13 - 19N - 5W is about 12,300 to 12,600' True Vertical Depth.

Ok, thanks for the information Skip!
