I was told by a good friend today that a test well KCS/Petrohawk has 2 or 3 miles northeast of Minden struck oil in the past couple of days. He was told that it seemed to be a good well and now they are trying to start leasing everything around this area. I was wondering if anyone else had heard this and to what degree of truth there is to these rumors?

This well was drilled by Brammer Engineering for several Shreveport independents. KCS/Petrohawk has nothing to do with the well. After scratching our heads a while we have set pipe on some thin zones in the Cretaceous that carried some shows. Our play is much shallower than the Haynesville. Sorry to burst the rumor bubble but its just a traditional, shallow oil play.
Bill Meaney,

Is this a project that your company worked on for a long time or was it "found" because of some Haynesville drilling in the area?
Bobi,
This project was underway long before the Haynesville hysteria hit but it took a lot of effort to complete enough leasing to drill the well once the "land rush" began. As you can understand, shallow oil plays don't justify nearly the lease bonuses and royalities that Haynesville Shale players were paying.
Bill, thank you very much for the explanation, that clears up a lot of things. I hope everything goes good for ya'll with the well. Have a great day!

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
