Buck,

This video brought me to tears. Not your normal reaction I know.

I had to privilege of seeing Hunter perform in a Restaurant in Lafayette about 6-7 years ago.

It was one of those golden serendipitous moments that are rare and unforgettable.

I was bringing my Mom and Grandmother to South Louisiana for a visit. We stopped for a bite at Mulates. He was playing there that evening. We got there before he started. My Mom and Grandmother knew him from watching him on television (probably from the time of this video - he is now about 18).

My Grandmother had Alzheimer's and this was her last visit down South.

She tried to order a Falstaff (the waiter who was about 80 years old - said they didn't make it anymore). So she ordered some other.

She got out on the dance floor and danced with my son. She always loved Cajun music and dancing. I guess even when your mind doesn't remember that well that your heart still does. We all had a wonderful time.

We spoke to Hunter and even got his autograph. He was quite the little gentleman (I think he was probably about 12).

None of the evening was planned and needless to say we didn't make it all the way to New Orleans that night, but it is something I will never forget.

I hope that one day I get to see Hunter perform again. It was truly a treat.

Thank you for reminding me of that special memory.

Your statement ". . . even when your mind doesn't remember that well your heart still does. . . " almost brought me to tears.

For anyone out there who has gone through (or is going through) dealing with a loved-one with Alzheimers ( I lost my dad to this disease a few years back) ,these words are indeed precious. Thank you, and thank you again!

Alzheimers strips one of his or her dignity but I think those heart memories always remain safely tucked away in the far recesses of the soul. At least I like to think it did in the case of my precious Mother-in-Love.

About a week before my Grandmother finally passed away, I played a cajun music CD for her. She couldn't even sit up but she smiled and kept time to the music.

Great clip.

I actually saw Hunter when he was about 4 years old performing at Festival Acadiens in Lafayette. Classic moment for me was when the 90+ year old Cajun gentleman standing next to me turned and shook his head saying 'dammit, I don hardly believe dat'.....
