The bill was to jump start natural gas usage in heavy transport. The cost would be paid back by a 2 cent user tax for 5 years and then the 2 cents would be discontinued. It is not true that it would be a double tax. Opposition to the amendment was a costly mistake by the ACU.

If natural gas can't make it on it's own without government influence then too bad. I think low prices are the answer to low prices. The cycle will take care of itself, because people and business will flock to the cheaper fuel source not because government is handing out corporate welfare by picking winners and loosers.

Twist it this way.

 

Cheniere Energy prospers and is in Vitter's back yard.  Transport fuel from NY across the shales is choked back without the policy change.  Haynesville is the closest gas supply to demand (over sea LNG) and gets the alternate wells we would all love to see.

I wish that were true but it was just another party line vote.  Only 6 Dems voted Nay and only 5 Repubs voted yea.  It is very difficult for people to get an accurate read on these types of legislation as the spin is almost out of control in the mainstream media, the net, and social media.  The Repubs turned it into a Soros, Pickens, Pelosi, Reid, get rich quick scheme which is BS and got back at the Dems who made the Keystone pipeline into an environmental issue which it was not.   Bottom line is that they are all in a paralyzed state due to an election year and are and have been afraid to take a stand. They won't even attempt to educate people on the domestic benefits of NG and nobody talks about the fact that Congress has been picking winners all along(oil, ethanol,environmentalist groups) yet for some reason Nat Gas needs to let the market sort it out.  Crap, if ther market was open, honest, fair, and transparent without regulation then maybe that would work.  I personally don't care if every bit of gas goes overseas and we have gasoline prices of $6/gallon because we are apparently too stupid to use it here.  You will see both parties come out when the price of everything goes up and say it is the opposition's fault, or speculation from the invisible speculator guys, that we have high gasoline prices but they both just missed a huge opportunity to bring down the price of not only gasoline but all goods.  Vote 'em all out because as far as I am concerned they are supporting the enemy in every energy decision that they make.

While I am "chewing,"

Vitter is a "beard" for "offshore" O&G operations. Vitter will screw over Onshore O&G operations every time...in favor of anything around the Gulf region.

"Vitter amendment would ramp up offshore drilling." 

He's an idiot.

Offshore Louisiana is in his backyard as well.  My point is he has a benefit coming from his constituents to vote the way he did today.  Defense for the Gulf Coast is another angle for his action.  South Louisiana has never done anything politically with the northern reaches of the state.  We simply don't have the population density up here.  Everything he does is to get those votes.  Move to Orleans Parish if you want him on your side.

I will be sure that everyone I know in South LA sees him for what he is. We already know up here. Maybe it's time for John Fleming to run for state Senate.
