The Snapshot Map is a simple means to view the boundaries of the Play as defined by unit applications.  These are not wells.  And many units do not contain HA wells permitted or drilling especially on the periphery.  The formation of drilling units is a leading indicator that gives some indication of operators' future intent to develop but until wells are actually completed and announced, there may be insufficient data to determine if wells will be economic,  Though the shale is highly contiguous in extent, it does vary in key properties and thus varies in production. Some areas that are not economic at current prices may be so in the future as higher nat gas prices.

Skip, how would one find information on a pad (in the clearing stages)? Is the permit completed at that point? Seems it would have to be. The STR would be S23 - T18N - 16W. Basically where Lowry Road takes off of Hwy 169 (North of I20 - West of Cross Lake).

*Operator
*Type of well
*Important dates
*Serial number
*etc, etc, etc

Thanks, SHM!
Site work most often proceeds a well permit and in some cases by a substantial amount of time. There is no order or application for a HA drilling unit in S23 - 18N - 16W. The closest are S27 & 28 to the immediate southwest which are Petrohawk units. A well could be permitted as "non-unitized" without an existing unit or application. The only means to determine if the pad is for an operator looking to drill a shale well at this point would be to ask someone on the site crew.
Thanks Skip!
Please show Texas also!
I wish I could. It's just not that easy Regina. The Texas land survey system and the TRRC database preclude a depiction that is as simple and update-able as the Snapshot Map. GHS is fortunate to have a number of knowledgeable E. TX. members who do a great job on keeping us updated on activity in their portion of the Play.
The above map indicates 21 units in 17-15 but the GIS map on sonris shows only 13 units highlighted for that township.
Is there any way to find out where the other units not showing up on sonris are?
SONRIS does not depict applications, only orders. The LOC Commissioner's public hearing schedule for April 27 includes a Petrohawk application for S31 and May 18 includes a Chesapeake application for S17,19,20,25,26,34 - 17N - 15W. SONRIS will pick these up once the unit orders are approved. As to the one section/unit discrepancy, I don't know. You may wish to examine the schedule.

Looks like they are spreading eastward from T-16, huh?
Sorry, PG, I don't understand your question. Could you be more specific?
Make that R-16 east of T17 R15.
Got my R's and T's mixed up..
Weren't they forming units over there before T17-R15?
PG. Range 16 West is west of Range 15 West but I think I get your meaning. The very first HA units in any 17N township were in 13W by Chesapeake in August of '08. Then units in 12W and 11W by Petrohawk and Samson Contour. The first 17N - 16W unit was formed by Petrohawk in Jan. '09. Beginning in late May '09 townships 17N 16 & 15W have been moderately active at a fairly steady pace. With the exception of some HA wells by Encore, this part of the Greenwood-Waskom Field is a Chesapeake and Petrohawk area of interest.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
