The Stuxnex worm targets PLC control systems made by Siemens that are commonly used to manage gas pipelines, drilling rigs, power plants and other industrial facilities.

Now the driller has really got to keep watch over the worms.

No, the explosion was cause by the pipe failing due to age and corrosion .

There's a lot of speculation on the source of Stuxnet, but not a lot of hard facts.

The predominant theory is that it's directed at Iran. Further speculation is that it's being done by some group in Israel or the US, possibly government affiliated.
Yes - apparently after so many replications it deletes itself - behavior lending itself to the theory that it was designed to target specific installations or areas and not to spread as widely as possible.
I would speculate, and feel strongly, that the worm is a joint US Israeli project. Probably carried out by a private team co-sponsored by said participants.
