I want to let everyone know that Chesapeake is granting releases to those who are holding the 50-year old leases from the Black Lake Field in Natchitoches Parish. This field was leased in the 1960's and over 15,000 acres were leased at the time. To get a release, contact Chesapeake, at 877-245-1427. Good luck.
Is the release that you are referring to just a document stating that the lease has expired?
Yes. If you send them the info on your lease, e.g., legal description of the land, and the filing info in the courthouse of the orignal lease, the release will say something like all signers, heirs, and assigns of this particular lease are hereby given release from that lease. They should send you a copy, and file it in the courthouse for you.
In my case, it took a couple of months, and a few phone calls, but they got it done.

After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
