The Status of Carbon Caps

Will the US have any in place before Copenhagen in December?

"Despite hopes — and promises by the Democratic leadership — that the Senate would tackle cap-and-trade legislation this fall, it's looking increasingly as if the U.S. will go to Copenhagen with no national carbon caps in place."

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and other key members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee are calling for a carbon cap-and-trade system, much like the one that Europe adopted four years ago but has yet to produce benefits.

In Europe, energy prices have skyrocketed, economic competitiveness has drained away, many jobs have been lost and investment has gone elsewhere. Worse still, Europe's carbon emissions have increased.

Thanks, Pipeliner, that's pretty much the same thing outlined in the Illinois document. I believe (and this is my most humble everyday joe opinion) this issue is going to be another one of those looonnnggg uphill battles between all sides. If it could be put on a graph, it might look something like the gas in storage report that The_Baron posts regularly. lol

Doesn't France want to add a carbon tax on top of the existing Cap n& Trade tax?
