THREE EAGLE FORD COUNTIES IN TOP 10 OIL PRODUCING LIST

Tarrant County easily takes first place for top natural gas producer

Karnes, Gonzales and LaSalle Counties in the Eagle Ford Shale are acting as bookends for the state’s Top 10 oil-producing counties, according to the Texas Railroad Commission’s ranking by preliminary production data.

The data, released Wednesday, show Karnes County in the No. 1 spot with June crude oil production at 2,697,597 barrels of oil. At the opposite end, Gonzales County ranks ninth with 1,363,157 barrels and La Salle ranks 10thwith 1,324,555 barrels.

In between are eight counties in the West Texas Permian Basin: Andrews (second with 2,432,874), Gaines (third with 2,001,165), Ector (fourth with 1,869,602), Yoakum (fifth with 1,710,427), Upton (sixth with 1,619,001), Midland (seventh with 1,611,601) and Martin (eighth with 1,541,744).

Tarrant County, including the Fort Worth metropolitan area, was a clear winner in top natural gas producing counties with 65,337,082 MCF (thousand cubic feet) in June.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
