Just curious....how are these wells named? I know some are after the landowner where they are located, but I was just curious how and who decides the names of these wells.

SL, I believe the root of the name is almost always the lease (land) name for the well's surface location. Most well's also include the section number for the lateral location. Finally the well number will be 1 for the first well on the lease. Typically (but not always) an "H" prefix is added to well number for horizontal wells.
