Can anyone tell me what the rules are for well spacing in Texas for areas where there are already Cotton Valley wells with intentions to drill deeper wells? Do the 40-acre rules apply also to the horizontal wells or are the rules altogether different. I would assume so, but don't know.

If the well is going deeper than the Cotton Valley then the CV wells play no part in the well spacing. Please see the Railroad Commission's website, http://webapps.rrc.state.tx.us/DP/initializeFieldSearchAction.do, to see the particular rules for your field as the spacing rules can be different from field to field.
