I reckon most people don't understand that some of the wealth with which he was generous came inappropriately off the backs of land owners all over this nation.

Those comments are a bit rich, to put it mildly.

I enjoyed reading them.  Hagiography at its lowest.

The comments paint a vivid picture of just how long the Gravy Train extended--miles and miles. 

I have to give him credit.  His con worked. 

The facts: a man who lost tens of billions of dollars, while living like a Robber Barron.  At his death he is lionized by many. Fancy that.

The professional wrestler known as the Million Dollar Man claimed "everybody has his price."  The comments prove it.

Bob Dylan said: steal a little and they will put you in jail. Steal a lot and they will make you King.

Well, I have seen stones thrown quite often. They are usually thrown at any questioning of the integrity or judgement of industry execs. As to using JC for authority, allow me to use Earl K Long. When they start singing "How Great Thou Art," hold on to your back pocket.

I did not miss it, but my point is if you want to wail and eulogize this elite sociopath then by all means do. Maybe that would get a better reception in a church full of folks in on the racket, not here of all places. Burial or not, he was what he was. I have no compassion for him and I dare say many do not. If expressing this is to be labeled brutal than posting such syrupy and obsequious paeans should at least be considered poor form.

Hey Jay. I agree. And I also agree with the first responder - David Klvac. He always replied to emails.

The irony here is without his ability to put deals together the Haynesville may never have happened or at least not to the extent that it has. CHK would never have happened. The problem is they "The Frackers" found a way to produce more gas than can be used but at the same time probably kept this Country from going into a deep depression. With the price of NG as a feed stock and energy source so low during the 08 recession this is what probably saved the US.   

And to the Justice Dept. allegations against him. That to a great extent is SOP in the industry. I had that happen to me as a mineral owner back in the 80's by two major companies. So that's nothing new. I guess because of his profile and being an independent the JD was going to make an example out of him.

i agree with Joe and Jay. i posted on one of the related threads that for me as a land and mineral owner, Aubrey was a mixed bag, but more positive rhan negative. i got lease bonuses that i would have never imagined in my 60+ years. i don't like the way CHK does business, and for me, it has only gotten worse since Aubrey left.

The man did a great deal of good in OKC, and overall, he did a lot of good in NW LA.

i agree that Mr. Mayo's words speak for themselves

Apparently, killing yourself when you're about to be found out is quite common in the Oil & Gas business too.

This past weekend, I was at a BBQ  in Houston, on Lazy Lane, with a group of industry people. Many said that in the 1980's so many people jumped out of windows in Midland, Texas that they enacted a zoning ordinance prohibiting construction of buildings higher than 4 stories to curb the impacts of the jumpers.

I haven't researched that so I'm not sure if it's true.
