Winter Weather affects Bakken, Eagle Ford oil production

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-north-dakota-jan-oil-output...

In December, Bakken oil production fell by nearly 50,000 bpd from a record just over 910,000 bpd in November, the largest drop since state records began, according to North Dakota Industrial Commission data this month.

The LCI figures, based on historical well production data and natural gas pipeline flows in North Dakota and Montana, are the first to show the full impact of winter weather on oil output, a trend that brought new seasonal uncertainty to oil markets in recent years.

Growth in the larger Eagle Ford shale in south Texas also ground to a halt at around 1.1 million bpd, according to the LCI data, which was made available to Reuters.

freeze-offs were bad this winter. i knew they were very severe in the midcontinent and rockies. but, i'm not surprised there were freeze-off in the bakken. it's about as north as you can go & still be in the us.

i am surprised that it sounds like there were freeze-offs in the eagle ford. well, maybe, not so surprising. it stayed below freezing for several days at a time down there. and, methane hydrate forms at around 34 degrees, i want to recall.

as an aside, in past, severe winters i've seen shelf wells freeze off. no one ever thinks that will happen, but it sure does.

the article suggests there were oil caused freeze-offs. has anyone ever seen such? i know that i don't know the solidification point(s) for light crude. maybe, the bakken crude is of paraffinic type. i know that if your gas freezes off then you can't produce the associated crude.
