Houston company applies for 13 oil well drilling units in Avoyelles Parish
Dark lines on map outline the 13 units where Anadarko plans to drill in the Southeastern corner of Avoyelles. The new units surround the two Deshotels wells already drilled. The bottom three units, and a portion of the four units above those three are in St. Landry Parish.

Aanadarko Energy and Production Company has applied to create thirteen more drilling and production units in Southeastern Avoyelles. Some of the units overlap into Pt. Coupee and St. Landry Parishes, and surround two wells already drilled by Nelson Energy.

Each unit will be composed of 1500 acres.

The four units at the top are Anadarko. The rest should be Nelson. We leased that acreage in the RR through VV. Below that is Whittier/Atinum. Anadarko and Nelson did a joint app on these units. Nice to see. Anadarko pretty much surrounds Nelson to the W, E, and N on all the acreage they have leased.

A coiled tubing completion rig has successfully milled out the actuating balls and port seats in the horizontal liner and the liner has been perforated to make the connection to the oil and natural gas fractures encountered while drilling.

Flow testing has commenced and it is expected that the initial oil and natural gas production results will be available for announcement to the market next week.

Story at Avoyellestoday.com:

Second Austin Chalk well flow tests at 200 barrels per day

Lower than expected results.

Third well planned.

Several mineral lease workers pulled out of the Avoyelles Courthouse as of today. Word is they will be back in January as they spent their budget already for 2011.

One rumor was that they spent all of their 2011 budget.  Another one is that they were disappointed with the results so far and may be moving out for good.  I do know that a landman I spoke to was not authorized to lease anymore land for an unspecified amount of time.  Any thoughts as to which rumor is more reasonable?

Well, the Nelson/Pryme Deshotel wells could be viewed as somewhat disappointing, especially given all the mechanical trouble.  BUT, the Anadarko/Dominique well looks a little better, and the Atinum/Briggs Well just had a great IP (2,184 BOPD, 6,795MCFD), both to the South.  Atinum is now drilling another well in NE St. Landry.  So maybe other parties will pick up the slack.  If Atinum's second well is as good as their first, I can't see how the area won't heat up.  Also, maybe a lot of the "core area" in SE Avoyelles (not St. Landry) has already been leased or at least a good run already made on the bigger tracts.

I'm actually more optimistic than I was 2-3 months ago, and glad the train didn't stop at the Deshotel Wells.
