I had a wildcatter tell me that Evangeline parish is not highly thought of in the exploration of oil or natural gas because of it's geology. In correlation with the Austin chalk and the Tuscaloosa shale how does evangeline parish's geology factor into this and what exactly is the reasoning behind a statement like this? Is it because of the depth of the shale formations or the composition or the resistivities? Can someone give an explanation about this subject? It seems to me that evangeline parish is in the fairway of both the Austin chalk and Tuscaloosa plays.

You gonna be there if you are in the Northern part of the Parish for the Austin Chalk and the TMS/LEF.

By north, do you mean around cheneyville? What is the possibility of exploration in the northern part of the parish?

CHK thought that the AC was there back in the 90's. I was buying leases from Turkey Creek down to Bayou Chico when the project was shut down back then. The wells never got drilled. If there is bad geology in Evangeline have the wildcatter explain those 1000 barrel a day wells around Pine Prairie and Easton. We are buying leases around Mamou.

In mamou? Wilcox play or tms? That seems to be a little far south for the tms.

Wilcox

You think that pine prairie and Easton could be in the tms or austin chalk? I am sure those families wouldn't mind another oil boom.

I don't know. I was told back in the 90's that we would not go into that area because of too much HBP acerage. We were moving fast back then and didn't want that kind of stuff to slow us down. I was following Hwy 167 and leasing on both sides. I got all the way down below Bayou Chico to where you drop from the high ground to the low ground, the LaHayes were some of the last leases that I took and one of them was a hold out that lost out on about 50 grand.

How much were the leases going for in the 90's? I know of the Lahayes. They are farmers I believe.

$150 an acre and 3/16 royalty for a five year lease. At that point in time, it was a decent offer and people were calling me to lease.

If I remember right; the previous owner of a piece of property that I now own @ Turkey Creek, leased in the 90's for $175 & 3/16ths.  I bought the property in '99 (lease had expired) and was watching closely when the Crowell wells near Meridian, and the Pucheau to the East were later drilled.  I did hear of some leases then for $200 & 1/4.  My property is ~3 miles South of those 3 units, but I wasn't contacted.

Hey tigger, I hope all plays out well. As my interest is in millers lake and surrounding farmland. It borders the Lahaye property 2 dogs is referring to.

CenturyMan, I bought many of the leases for CHK back in 1997 at Turkey creek and nobody got $175. There was a company running ahead of us that were speculators giving the same price as us but I never heard that they gave anything more. The highest I paid was to a holdout in Rapides around Glenmora that was fixing to get drilled and I gave him $200 and 1/5. It is my understanding that the Crowells got way more than 1/4 from CHK.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
