got another letter today about doing seismic  work on a 2 acre tract that to my knowledge is out of a 70 acre tract.  do not understand that.  it is located west of sharp well.

Back to the subject of the discussion.  Patterson UTI Rig #199 reported "Rigging Up" on the SWN Milstead 15 #1 12/20.  I believe that this is the first SWN Brown Dense well to be drilled by a drilling contractor as opposed to DeSoto Drilling, SWN's drilling division.

Is this one of the former SWN Drilling rigs sold to Patterson? I believe it was mentioned that they were buying some of the rigs SWN was selling. It will be interesting to see of the use of a contractor rig continues or if SWN is planning on replacing it with a replacement.

I don't have my land rig directory with me.  Although it is of moderate interest in regard to the BD, it makes me wonder what it may indicate about SWN's business structure.  Few mid-major E&P companies are as vertically integrated as SWN.  A move to contracted rigs could signal a change in philosophy.

Let me assure you that the vertical integration philosophy is alive and quite well...

Don't know for sure about the drilling side of it, other than the comment on the last public presentation about replacing the rigs with new AC drive ones. On other operations though vertical integration is still "drilling ahead".

The make up of the land rig fleet is in flux.  At lot of older rigs are being retired.  Deep horizontal drilling requires greater horsepower and other specialty capabilities to accommodate new development designs such as pad drilling.  I think most new top drives are diesel/electric and that the use of natural gas to fuel drilling ops is a growing trend.  SWN may just be in the process of reconfiguring their fleet.

No.  SWN has limited reporting on their BD wells.

SONRIS reported on Monday, Dec 30, that the Milstead 15 was drilling ahead  at 4885 feet.
